April 15th, 2013
Spring has had a rather slow start this year, but it’s coming...it must! It’s that time of the year where we pack away the hats and mittens, reconnect our rain barrels, pump up the bicycle tires and head back outside to soak up the warmth of the sunshine! April is also the month that we celebrate the Earth. The Environment Network invites you to share what you will be doing on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day. We like to think here that everyday is Earth Day. To find out what we are doing please join our facebook page, where there are constant updates and photos of what we are up to.

Girlfriends
We have been having a lot of fun at GIRLFRIENDS and are in disbelief that we are more than halfway through our 12 weeks. It has been wonderful forming new bonds and watching new friendships evolve over the course of the program. Gratitude has been a reoccurring (more often than usual) topic for me over the past week. I am grateful for this wonderful program, for the participants, the mentors, the volunteers, our funding agencies, and the team at Environment Network. All of these combined make this program possible. - Stephanie Hardy
Program Coordinator
Feature Volunteer This month we would like to thank Anne Racuinas for her volunteerism with the GIRLFRIENDS program. Anne has been a mentor for the past three years with the program and is always willing to help out wherever we need her. Anne’s compassion is like no other and she has a calming affect on others. Anne is quick witted and always leads by example. She is always up for trying something new even if it pushes her out of her comfort zone. We are truly grateful to have her as a mentor. The GIRLFRIENDS program is lucky to have her! Program Proudly Supported by the United Way Agency & The Collingwood Optimist Club

The community is asked to drop off resalable, unwanted items at the Curling Club on Hume Street in Collingwood between Sunday April 21st and Friday April 26th where sorters sort, pricers price, and approximately 60,000 items await the community for a one day sale.
Drop Off Times:
Sunday Noon - 4:00pm
Monday - Thursday Noon - 8:00pm
Friday Noon - 6:00pm
Many antiques and collectables will go into the silent auction held during the morning and closing at noon on the Saturday. Larger products such as furniture, energy guide appliances, boats etc can be picked up by phoning the hotline 705-441-0164. This event replaces the old street pickup that cost the Town of Collingwood in excess of $100,000 annually, tied up equipment, and needlessly filled the landfill.
