The Environment Network carries a wide variety of sustainable & eco friendly options for you, your home & your family. We believe that you can change the world one purchase at a time by shopping wisely, buying fair trade, sweatshop free, locally made, organic and natural whenever possible. We offer unique products that you will feel good about purchasing and giving as gifts. When you choose to buy from us, or other green and ethical businesses you are saying NO to sweatshop labour, cutting corners, corporate handouts and pollution. Say yes to fair wages in the local context, yes to sustainable farming, yes to sustainable business practices, yes to social enterprise, yes to organic, green, natural and good. Yes. The decision to open the Shoppe came about as a result of our staff having difficulty finding products locally that satisfy our everyday needs and wants in terms of environmental concerns and overall sustainability. How can an organization promote sustainability when it’s not easy for us to do? A great deal of time and work went into researching each item and their individual ingredients. We want to make it easy for people to do the right thing. Our goal is to give people the tools to make good purchasing decisions wherever they are. Get 10% OFF when you mention you saw this in ENews

Movie Overview:
Marvel at the results of a 25-year reforestation effort in Colombia to transform a large swath of lifeless savannah as it gives birth to a new form of community and sustainability, regenerates biodiversity, produces drinking water and sustainably-farmed biodiesel, reduces national foreign debt and much more.
SILENT AUCTION! In the spirit of St. Patrick’s day, we again celebrate with a fundraising auction and green refreshments prior to the film. This year’s event will have a silent auction for most items, and a live auction for 6 hot ticket items. Last year’s evening was a great success and raised over $4,125 in support of Elephant Thoughts and the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust’s delivery of local environmental programs in schools.
These hands-on workshops encourage the conservation of our ecologically sensitive wetlands, the promotion of alternative energy choices and the ability to make informed decisions on living in a way to protect our planet for future generations. Taught by skilled teachers, students participate in a number of interactive science-based activities, such as building solar cars, generating electricity using bikes, interacting with live native animals and using models to simulate the effects of pollution on the watershed system. We believe that the future of this planet depends on our children, and therefore promote their active involvement in this series. Students are free and we encourage their volunteerism as much as possible.
So dust off your kilts and join us with musical guest Strange Potatoes, our local celtic music band, to support these important school programs.

New Business in Town
Conscious Water has recently moved to Collingwood! They offer Berkey gravity fed water purifiers which are so powerful they can even purify nasty pond water. The units were originally crafted by Royal Doulton back in the 1830's and are now used by UNICEF, Red Cross and folks like you worldwide. Incorporating the naturally alkalizing mineral stones creates super healthful alkaline water. Environment Network was so impressed with the systems, and the taste of the water, they now own one and offer Conscious Water on their premises. For all the info, and a 3 minute introduction video, check out: www.ConsciousWater.ca

Girlfriends
It’s been an exciting few weeks with the GIRLFRIENDS program now running at Admiral Collingwood Elementary School and Connaught Public School. We are lucky to have so many girls out and it has been so fun getting to know them all. We are all so happy to be part of this program and the perfect example of that happened the other week, when one of the volunteers stopped by the Environment Network to let me know how much the program means to her. She had received some money as a gift from her grandparents and wanted to make a donation. It brought tears to my eyes as she already volunteers her time every week for these girls. What a wonderful feeling that was. I am so grateful for this program and all those who are part of it.

This month we would like to thank Chantal Horning for her volunteerism with the GIRLFRIENDS program. Chantal is a new addition to the GIRLFRIENDS volunteer team but has had no trouble fitting right in. Her smile will warm your heart and provide comfort to those around her. She is a wonderful example to our youth and they love to be with her. Chantal has such a kind and fun loving attitude that makes her the perfect addition to the GIRLFREINDS program. Chantal works at Kamikaze Bikes in Collingwood so if you are popping in to shop please make sure to say hi.
The GIRLFRIENDS program is lucky to have her!
