Welcome to The Environment Network
We are a non-profit, non-government organization that has been dedicated to environmental conservation and community engagement since our inception in 1993. Our journey began as a storefront for the Collingwood Harbour Remedial Action Plan (RAP), aiming to provide a central hub for environmental activities and resources in the community.
One of our primary objectives has always been to serve as a trusted environmental resource for residents and visitors. As a founding and active member of Green Communities Canada, we are proud to support grassroots-led climate action through leadership, connection, training, and hands on projects. We believe that community-driven initiatives play a crucial role in addressing climate challenges and building sustainable communities. Through our collaboration with Green Communities Canada, we contribute to the collective effort of building sustainable communities and a resilient future for the next generations.
We firmly believe in collaboration and have established strong partnerships with local organizations, businesses, municipalities, and community groups. Our long-standing alliances include the Town of Collingwood, Elephant Thoughts, and Free Spirit Gardens. Additionally, we are proud to manage and support the Collingwood Youth Centre, providing valuable opportunities for young individuals to learn employability, leadership and wellness skills that will support them into the future.
At The Environment Network, we recognize the intrinsic link between the environment, society, and the economy. We are committed to creating a "green industry" by promoting and demonstrating sustainable practices and improvements. Our goal is to inspire and empower individuals and businesses to operate in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with our planet.
Throughout our journey, we have achieved significant milestones. In 1994, Collingwood Harbour was de-listed as an Area of Concern, signifying that it met all the environmental standards set for the cleanup of the Great Lakes. This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and collaborative efforts of our organization and the community we serve.
We are proud to be a founding member of the Natural Step Learning Network, further strengthening our commitment to sustainable practices and knowledge sharing.
As an organization, we recognize the importance of evolving with the changing needs of our community. Therefore, we review and update our strategic directions annually to ensure that we continue to meet the demands and expectations of our stakeholders.

SUSTAINABILITY... WHAT IS IT?
Sustainability is a confusing and contentious topic that is very difficult to define. One description from the World Commission on Environment and Development’s (1987) Bruntland Report describes sustainable development as that which ‘meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.
The Environment Network often chooses another way to capture this complex concept through the use of a simple statement: ‘Enough for all, forever.’
This statement was made by a United Nations attendee and is used often by many who promote sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable living.
